What is a turbocharger?

A turbocharger is a forced induction device. That means exhaust gases power it. The turbo gets energy from the exhaust gases to compress intake air, which forces more air into the engine. Turbos were invented by a Swiss engineer back in 1905. Turbos are named after the turbines that spin and power the compressor, which can spin up to 250,000 RPM, providing tremendous power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to buy turbochargers and turbo accessories with confidence, from finding the right fit to how we deal with cores, warranty, shipping, and returns. Here are the answers customers ask for most, with the full details a click away.

Not sure which turbo fits your vehicle?

Shop with the vehicle selector by year, make, model, and match the OEM part number when you can. Still unsure? Send us your vehicle details and we will verify the right part before you order.

New or remanufactured: which should you buy?

New units are built to OEM or better specs. Our remanufactured turbos are stripped, machined, and rebuilt with new wear parts to meet or beat factory standards, usually at a lower price. Both are dependable, so it comes down to your budget and what is available for your application.

How does the core charge work?

Some turbos include a refundable core deposit. Send back your old, rebuildable unit, and once it passes inspection the deposit is refunded to you. The full rules are in our Core Policy.

What warranty is included?

Every turbo is backed by the manufacturer's limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage length varies by brand and is listed on each product page, and our Warranty page explains how claims work.

How soon will my turbo arrive?

Most in-stock turbos dispatch within one business day and reach most of the continental US in about one to five business days. Need it sooner? Faster shipping is available at checkout.

Can I return a turbo?

Unused, uninstalled turbos in resellable condition can be returned within 30 days with an RMA. Once a turbo has been installed or run, it moves to the warranty process instead. Our Terms and Conditions cover the details.

How do I know my turbo is going bad?

Watch for a whistle or siren noise, power loss, blue or black smoke, rising oil use, and boost-related trouble codes. If you notice these, ease off the throttle and get it inspected before it takes the engine with it.
